August 2018 Day Program News

September 19, 2018 By Dan Fox 2 Comments

The Restoration Farm is helping adults with special needs by partnering with The Harford Center and The Arc of the Northern Chesapeake Region.

The Restoration Farm is partnering with two local nonprofits in order to help adults with special needs gain important vocational skills. During the summer, three separate groups of six people have been coming weekly to the farm to learn vocational skills and to enjoy the farm animals.
The Harford Center brings their group on Tuesdays to clean the inside of the house. Harford Center volunteers clean under the supervision of RF volunteers. Together they clean the six bathrooms in the house, vacuum the carpets and mop the marble and tile floors. It’s a daunting task to keep such a big house clean and ready for visitors!

The Arc of the NCR sends two teams of six out weekly. These teams have been working primarily in the barn and around the grounds. They’ve weeded flower beds, picked berries and vegetables, power- washed cement floors, helped unload a trailer of hay, and cleaned the tack room in the barn (and much more).

With job skills and confidence gained from working on the farm, qualified volunteers from The Harford Center and The Arc of the NCR go on to paid employment in the community.
Restoration Farm has become a stepping stone in which adults with special needs can explore their job interests, enrich their lives, and develop soft skills for employment.
There’s been a county wide interest from nonprofits who want to come to The Restoration Farm and be a part of what we’re doing.

Our Vision
We want the farm to become a community gathering place for families with special needs. We want adults with special needs to play an important part in the weekly life of the farm, viewing the farm as an enjoyable place to go for fun and life enrichment as well as for work skills development.
We also want to reach out to caregivers and those who work in the caregiver industry not only by providing help and encouragement through our day program but also through genuine friendships and relationships.

The Restoration Farm is a friend to families who have special needs and to the non-profits who support families with special needs in Harford County Maryland!

As Christians, we value all people and reach out to our community with the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe God loves all people and that he demonstrated his incredible love when he sent his son Jesus into the world to pay for the sins of humankind by dying on the cross. Jesus rose, authenticating his message, and establishing the faith in which we rest.

This is amazing!!! We are a family with our daughter, Bethany, who is 36 and has special needs. We have recently moved to Kingsville and have just heard about your farm. We have been serving in Christian Schools for 35 years. My husband as Head of School in Ct, DE, and Maryland. I have also served as the school librarian in two of those schools. We are so amazed by your mission and your website. We would love to visit to learn more and see the farm in person! God bless you in this wonderful ministry!
